Catwalk to Celebrity: Yves Saint Laurent SS/11 + Olivia Wilde

“This look is very rigid schoolmarm by day, and tough-bitch dominatrix by night,” says Guido Palau, Redken’s Creative Consultant and lead hairstylist for the Spring 2011 Yves Saint Laurent runway show. “It’s very seventies, but Edwardian, yet minimal at the same time. And there is no innocence to this woman; she is sophisticated, sexual, powerful, intelligent… she radiates strength and her silhouette is so beautiful. She’s very classic YSL.” And it looks as if sexy actress Olivia Wilde is a fan of this retro rolled chignon revival; while promoting Tron, Wilde’s mane was slicked, tucked, rolled, and pinned to perfection, quite similar to Guido’s sculpted creation.

To get the look, Guido suggests inserting a deep center part and generously palming Redken Hardwear 16 Super Strong Sculpting Gel through your strands. Working horizontally, twist hair inward and secure with hair pins as you go along. Finish by misting with Redken Pure Force 16 Non-Aerosol Fixing Spray, which will set  look while boosting shine.
