Are You Afraid of the Dark?, a former Nickelodeon show ostensibly for children but that would probably give me nightmares for a week if I watched it right now, is getting the silver screen treatment after being off the air for 17 years. Yes, nostalgia is a powerful force in Hollywood these days, and our generation is reaping the benefits.

According to The Hollywood Reporterthe adaptation of the Canadian anthology series will be written by Gary Dauberman, the man behind the recent clown horror film It. Which means it will probably, somehow, be even scarier than it was when you were an adolescent. This is really saying something because that episode with the little girl ghost who wrote “HELP ME” all over the wall is absolutely terrifying, I don’t care how old you are.

“The show is about the shared experience of telling stories — especially scary ones. We’re going to celebrate that with this movie and honor the darker, scarier tone of the show, which was really groundbreaking for Nickelodeon at the time. I hope the Midnight Society approves,” Dauberman told The Hollywood Reporter.

Darker and scarier, huh? Well, that’s good. Yeah, I’m totally fine with that. Can 100 percent handle it. As long as I can hide three-quarters of my face under a blanket and I’m not left alone for at least eight hours after watching.
