Cool air. Cozy sweaters. Pumpkin spice everything. Another sure sign of the seasonal shift? The perpetual state of chapped lips. Perhaps you’ve already caught yourself reaching for your favorite lip balm over and over again. But if that’s not cutting it, you may want to consider applying a lip oil — a sensorial new take that packs major benefits for parched pouts.

Oil-based products are one of the biggest trends we are seeing across skin care right now,” says New York City dermatologist Dr. Josh Zeichner. “Oils are effective because they contain natural fats that provide emollient properties to the skin to soften and protect the outer layer.”

Along with the vitamins and botanical extracts that nourish and prevent chapped lips, these lip oils also offer the shine of a gloss without the stickiness. Most go on clear, reminiscent of your favorite face oil, or with a glossy tint for a barely-there pop of color. Whichever you prefer, the high-shine reflects light to soften the appearance of little lines and flakes.

Here are some of the new lip oils we can’t stop swiping. Give any of these a try, and you’ll likely find yourself addicted to the luxurious feel, too.

1 Versed Silk Slip Conditioning Lip Oil ($10; target.com)

Designed to hydrate lips longer than your average lip balm would, this Target bestseller blends jojoba, camellia, and sesame seed to nourish lips while vitamin E softens and smoothes.

2 Votary Natural Lip Oil ($46; votary.co.uk)

This chic glass vial is filled with a formula so clean, it’s technically edible, but it’ll do more for your lips topically. Ingredients like African watermelon, passionflower, jojoba, and sweet almond oil soften and moisturize and there’s a delightfully natural, fresh citrus scent to uplift your senses upon application!

3 Sugar Rush Lip Sip Vegan Lip Oil ($15; ulta.com)

Tarte’s sister brand Sugar Rush has three shades of this vegan lip oil rich in jojoba and sunflower seed oils. All of them smell delicious, and all of them give a subtle, sheer wash of color. There’s Fresh Pressed for the nude-lip lovers, cherry slush for a just-sorta-there pop of red, and dragon fruit for a wash of pink.

4 Wander Beauty Lip Retreat Oil ($22; sephora.com)

This formula is available in a colorless, glossy formula, but also in a berry, nude, and pink hue to make it easy to combine color and care for your lips. Wander’s lip oil is a blend of fatty acid rich ingredients like Chilean rosa canina fruit oil and rich avocado oil to deeply hydrate this thin-skinned area.

5 Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Oil ($9; walgreens.com)

The nourishing, natural blend of meadowfoam seed and coconut oils softens lips and lends a hint of sheer color (choose from six shades). We especially love the pen-like applicator, which makes for foolproof swiping.

6 Hourglass Nº 28 Lip Treatment Oil ($49; netaporter.com)

While $1 away from $50 is pricey for a lip product, Hourglass’s formula did not come to play! Sure, this formula has nourishing botanical oils, but it also has a number of impressive technologies. There’s saliporine-8, a succulent-derived ingredient known to boost moisture levels as much as 6000 percent when used twice a day for 28 days. There’s also volulip to improve texture, shape, and softness. And finally, viamerine is hydrating and anti-aging.

7 I Dew Care Glow Easy Vitamin C Lip Oil ($14; ulta.com)

Your lips get a quick pop of berry and an easy dose of Vitamins C & E and raspberry seed oil in this K-beauty pick.

8 Chapstick Total Hydration Tinted Lip Oil ($7; target.com)

Swap your go-to tube for this oil that’s packed with vitamins C and E, plus omegas 3, 6, and 9. Available in a handful of universally-flattering, sheer colors, at this price point, you can afford to get them all.

9 NARS Orgasm Oil-Infused Lip Tint ($26; sephora.com)

In addition to a purple, fuschia, and pale pink shade, there’s also an Orgasm edition of this product. That’s right, you can get your fix of NARS’s iconic peachy-pink-and-gold-flecked hue in hydrating lip oil form, too.

10 Rodin Luxury Lip & Cheek Oil ($35; netaporter.com)

For the dog lover, or the art lover, or the beautylover….anyone will find something to love in this capsule collection of Rodin lip oils, each of which features a touch of whimsy with an illustrated puppy created by Instagram-artist-phenom @drawbertson. Inside, it has sunflower, olive fruit, safflower seed and jojoba seed oil.

11 YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil ($36; yslbeauty.ca)

Intended to deliver as much on lip care as color, these ultralight “tint-in-oils” feature a blend of oils, common and exotic (apricot kernel oil, coriander fruit oil, jojoba seed oil, and passion fruit seed oil) to deliver hydration to the lips. This is a super gift-worthy option, too, thanks to the adorable packaging touches — a lip-shaped window displays the color and the applicator itself is shaped like a perfect pout.

12 lilah b. Lovingly Lip™ Tinted Lip Oil ($30; sephora.com)

This luxe formula comers in three flattering shades (a nude-y beige, pale pink, and wine) and features unique ingredients like milk thistle to gently exfoliate and promote cell turnover (bye-bye, flaky lips!) and hydrating bilberry seed oil.

13 Clarins Lip Comfort Oil ($26; ulta.com)

There are eight flavors of this cushiony lip oil so you won’t be short on options. It applies like a dream thanks to its oversized applicator that perfectly curves to match the shape of the lips.
