Charlize Theron Just Debuted An Impossibly Chic Bowl Cut

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron just took the 90s trend to an entirely new level. Yesterday, the actress shared a photo of her brand new bowl cut — and somehow she makes it look impossibly chic.

At 44-years-old, Theron has rocked a number of hairstyles over the years, from pixie cuts with baby bangs to long, soft waves. At this year's Academy Awards, the actress surprised everyone by showing up on the red carpet with a blunt, chestnut brown bob. She's been sporting a similar look since, the short cut having grown out a bit since February.

But fans and followers are really going wild over Theron's bold new look, which was a joint effort by her styling team.

The bowl cut debuted on her Instagram with the caption “She’s baaaaack #Fast9,” referring to her work on the next The Fast and The Furious film. And though the cropped hairstyle appears to be for her reprisal role as Cipher in the franchise, there's no wigs here.

Theron's stylist Adir Abergel (who was also responsible for Theron's 2019 Oscars cut) told Bustle that he and fellow stylist Jonny Eagland teamed up to create the look, specifically for assistance with the precision undercut. “I love collaborating with my hair brothers and sisters,” Abergel told the team. The cut also features a slight V-shape in the back and slightly textured ends, which gives the style a modern twist.

On his own Instagram, Abergel also cited supermodel Linda Evangelista as a major source of inspiration. The model famously chopped her long hair into a pixie cut for a photo series by photographer Peter Lindbergh in 1988.

Colorist Shannon Gallacher transformed Theron's dark brown locks into an ashy blonde shade in just one day. The style team has dubbed the new shade as “wheaty blonde,” keeping Theron's dark roots but adding in some lighter highlights.

Theron's new style serves as major fall hair inspo, but only the most daring among us would try out this cut. “This hair is next level good. But would only look good on you,” January Jones wrote in the comment section of Theron's post.

While it's certainly a modern spin on the classic bowl cut, it likely requires a great deal of maintenance and regular trims. For now, we'll just keep staring at Charlize.
