Always one to be completely open about her body insecurities, Chrissy Teigen revealed via Instagram that she gets Botox to prevent excessive armpit sweating. A series of posts on her Instagram Stories show the 33-year-old Bring the Funny host getting injections under her arms, which she calls the "best move" she's ever made.
In the clips, Teigen is seen lying down as Jason Diamond, MD, FACS, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, injects Botox into her armpits. Clearly a little uncomfortable, she holds a piece of cloth over her mouth during the procedure. But, according to her caption, it was totally worth it: "BOTOXED MY ARMPITS" she wrote, "TRULY BEST MOVE I HAVE EVER MADE."
Teigen added, "I can wear silk again without soaking woohoo!"
Anyone who has attempted to rock a silk dress or blouse in the summer knows the struggle of the dreaded sweat stains. Botox has long been used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, but it is also FDA-approved for the treatment hyperhidrosis, aka a condition that causes excessive sweating.
“Botox traditionally is used to block the muscle so that it doesn’t move or contract, which helps reduce the wrinkles in the face,” David Shafer, MD, FACS, previously explained to GLAM. “But what they found is that it also works on the sweat glands, so a very popular thing now is to inject it into the armpits to block them from producing sweat.”
Beauty is pain, right? Well, not exactly. Apparently, underarm Botox isn't as bad as it looks. “That really isn’t anything,” Teigen says in the clip, taking a sigh of relief. “It looked very frightening.”
Surely, her choice was met with opposition, but to each their own -- and as Teigen's trolls know, she really doesn't care what others think.
