Nothing says early oughts quite like the French manicure. The simple white tip solidified itself as a hallmark of the early 2000s, thanks to the hands of stars like Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson. And now, like most trends of that era (cargo pants, tracksuits, ankle bracelets, etc. etc.), the the design is making a stealthy comeback -- with a modern twist, of course.

The "deep French manicure," which has been been popular among celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Bella Hadid, features a much thicker line and favors an almond shaped nail rather than the traditional square shape of the past. The stark white polish takes up more space on the nail while the new shape makes the fingertips appear longer and more elegant.

We're also seeing nail artists play with pops of color, expanding from the white/nude scheme of the original trend, and because there is more space for polish, some are even doing on-trend designs like tie-dye at the tips.

Scroll through for some nostalgic summer nail inspo -- and don't be surprised if you start seeing the deep French manicure everywhere over the next few months.
