If it seems like everyone you follow on social media is getting bangs before summer, that’s because they are. The latest to join the club: Hilary Duff. The 31-year-old Younger actress debuted the trendy new hairstyle at the LA press day for Comedy Central on Thursday, tipping the scales for every woman amidst the age-old “bangs or no bangs” debate.
Duff posted her glam new look on Instagram prior to the red carpet. Rocking long, layered hair and feathered bangs that frame her face, gold hoop earrings, and a floral-printed maxi dress, the newly-engaged mother of two is giving off serious ’70s vibes. The shaggy cut also looks a few shades lighter than Duff’s usual blonde.
The caption credits celebrity hairstylist Nikki Lee of Nine Zero One Salon for the chop: “Well @nikkilee901 came thru with these fly 70s summer bangers and @allanface face painted me up right and @highheelprncess got me this gorgeous flowing dress with some sassy ass boots. Mama feeling good.”
“Hilary has been toying around with the idea of bangs for a few weeks. I just ignored her, hoping she would forget about them, but today we just went for it, and we’re so glad we did,” Lee said of the look. “Instead of doing a full-on bang, we opted for more of a curtain bang that sweeps to both sides. The vibe is very ‘70s. and a perfect way to switch up her look.”
Duff is one many celebs opting for a seventies style a la Farrah Fawcett. Anne Hathaway also stepped out recently with a shorter shag, courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel.
The thing that’s so appealing about this look is that it’s flattering on pretty much everyone, complementing any texture or length thanks to the wispy layers. Plus, because the bangs are longer and more blended, they grow out seamlessly.
Still, if you’re skeptical about taking the leap with bangs, you can always go for a wig like Chrissy Teigen — none of the commitment, all of the fun. Either way, this is all of the wispy bang inspiration we need before summer.
