Usually when a celebrity undergoes a dramatic hair transformation, they're chopping off length or dying it a new hue. But Katy Perry has gone a completely different route. The pop star, who's experimented with numerous hair styles and colors over the years, just shocked fans by ditching her platinum pixie cut for long locks.
Showing off her brand new, shoulder-length style on Instagram, Perry captioned the photo, "Como te llamas, baby?" And, at first glance, she's almost unrecognizable.
The 34-year-old looks positively ethereal in the photo, with soft waves framing her face and natural-looking makeup. It's dramatically different than her typical public persona.
But because Perry posted photos from Coachella with short hair just days prior, we can only assume that her new style is a wig or really good hair extensions. Either way, it looks completely natural on her. Considering it comes courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton, we wouldn't expect anything less. Some of his other clients include hair chameleons like Ariana Grande and Kim Kardashian.
Though this look is likely temporary, it's safe to assume the singer may be growing out her hair. In 2017, Perry explained her initial reasoning behind the pixie cut. In an appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show, she explained that going blonde has severely damaged her hair, so she decided to just chop it off. "I don't know if you ever dyed your hair blonde, too blonde," she said. "Sometimes your hair falls out when you go too blonde, so...this is the way I handled it. This is the destination that I showed up to."
Perry can clearly rock any hairstyle, and after her recent engagement to Orlando Bloom, we're super curious as to what kind of bridal look she'll go for. Chic and traditional? Edgy and modern? We can't wait to find out.
