It’s been reported that Meghan Markle’s daily routine is surprisingly simple. According to those close to her, the Duchess of Sussex styles herself for most occasions and even does her own hair and makeup – which is pretty impressive for someone who spends her days rushing from one public appearance to the next. Honestly, it’s hard enough getting ready for work in the morning...
Of course, she’s learned from the best, like her friends Jessica Mulroney (a celebrity stylist) and Daniel Martin (the celebrity makeup artist who did her wedding day makeup). Before becoming a British royal, Markle was an American actress and spent plenty of time backstage in hair and makeup. She’s since perfected the messy bun, dewy skin, defined brows, and no-makeup makeup, among other things.
Another beauty trick that apparently stuck with the Duchess: overlining her lips. While this may sound like a technique that delivers a dramatic pout a la Kylie Jenner, when done correctly, overlining makes the lips appear fuller in the most subtle way. So subtle, in fact, no one has noticed HRH doing it – until now. As PopSugar first pointed out, Markle appears to have been keeping this makeup secret all along, and even now that we know, it's barely noticeable.
Want to try overlining for yourself?
Using a lip liner slightly darker than your natural lip color, draw along the outside edges of your lips as opposed to right on the line. For the most natural-looking results, don’t try to create new curves or draw too far outside of your lip line. Then, fill in the rest of your lips with a similar shade of lipstick. Rosy pinks or nude tones will keep the look soft and subtle, but the technique also works with bolder shades like red or fuchsia. It all depends on the vibe you’re going for.
"She likes to talk and she's not a fussy person, so she doesn't want to have to worry about anything,” Martin told People of Markle’s lipstick choices, adding "She doesn’t stray too far from her technique, she’s very formulaic with her routine.” One of her favorite lipstick shades is said to be Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipstick in Very Victoria ($34; sephora.com).
Here’s to hoping more of her beauty routine will be revealed on her new Instagram account.
