Makeup brushes aren’t cheap, so it’s worth going the extra mile to preserve them. That’s why we were so excited to stumble upon a smart setup that allows them to dry without resulting in misshapen bristles. And, believe it or not, all you need is a pool float — you know, those long cylinders used to stay afloat in the water.
Last week, Facebook user Gail Sherman posted a photo of a green pool noodle with 15 vertical slits cut into it. Each slit holds a makeup brush, hanging upside down to dry. Smart, right? Considering makeup artists advise against laying them on a flat surface to dry, we think so. Sherman also sliced the noodle in half, horizontally, so it would hug the edge of the counter. She confirmed to commenters that this allowed it to stick without tape or glue.
“Well check out my brush dryer lol made with a pool noodle,” she captioned the photo. The internet is going hog-wild, applauding Sherman for her creative (and seasonally appropriate) hack. The post has been shared over 13,000 times, has over 2,700 reactions, and a slew of praise from the makeup-loving community.
“That’s so genius,” one commenter said. “Game changer,” wrote another. Lots of other Facebook users were telling Sherman to patent her genius idea. “I would’ve definitely kept this a secret & turnt this into $$$ ? makeup companies about to run with this so quick,” said a user.
Now you have no excuse not to wash your makeup brushes. Experts agree this is an effective and hygienic way to dry them without ruining the bristles. To speed up the process, try pointing a fan at the brushes, as demonstrated by another brush-drying hack that went viral two years ago. Sherman also suggests covering the floor with a towel so that it doesn’t get wet if water drips.
