Celine Dion may be an icon, but that doesn’t mean she’s immune to haters. Since joining social media, she is well aware of the comments people are making about her appearance, specifically her weight. And guess what? She DGAF about the criticism.
In an interview withEntertainment Tonight, the singer addressed the comments about her weight and explained why she isn’t letting it get to her. “Is there anything wrong with my body?” she asked confidently. (No, obviously.)
Dion says that though she’s lost some of the fat she had when she was younger, she’s far from unhealthy. “I do ballet. I do a lot of stretching and I work out because it helps my mind, body, and soul,” she said. “When you go back, when I was 12 years old, my face was rounder because you have more fat when you’re younger…But I’ve always been very thin.”
This is just another reminder that body shaming presents itself in many ways. And although she shouldn’t have to defend herself to anyone, the 51-year-old living legend is not going to let people attempt diminish her achievements by focusing on her slim appearance.
Still, Dion is aware that her position makes her vulnerable to haters. “If you don’t want to be criticized, you are in the wrong place,” she said. “I take the positive. I take what’s good for me. I leave behind what is not good for me. I let my management take care of that, and if it hurts anyone, they will take care of that. And I need to focus on what’s right for me, how I feel and, last but not least, you can’t please everybody.”
Tell ’em, girl.
At the end of the day, Celine Dion cares way more about her fans than those who choose to criticize her. “I want [my fans] to know how much I appreciate the fact that they came to my invitation, in a way, which they accepted and they were absolutely amazing guests,” she said of their support. “I just wanted them to know that through the years, through my whole life…They have been there for me.”
