We’ve all experienced an awkward period mishap, whether it be a stain on light-colored clothing or a tampon falling out of your bag as you reach for your keys. Sadly, period embarrassment still exists, and when it happens, it can feel like all eye are on you. Well, Pop singer Charli XCX recently had an incident that played out on a literal stage — and she handled it with no shame.

Over the weekend, the “I Love It” singer was performing her world tour in Austin, TX, when her tampon string escaped from her costume. In a video shared on her Instagram account after the show, Charli addresses its surprise appearance on stage. “My tampon string is out tonight,” she says in the clip as the audience cheers her on. “Last night I was like, I thought it came out, but tonight, it came out, Austin.”

Instead of being ashamed of the wardrobe malfunction, she appears to tuck the tampon string back into her briefs and move on with the show like NBD.

“MY TAMPON STRING STOLE THE SHOW,” she captioned the Instagram video. “HER STAGE PRESENCE IS ICONIC TBH. 💅🏼 TICKETS FOR TOUR AT LINK IN BIO. IF UR LUCKY SHE MIGHT MAKE A GUEST APPEARANCE AT YOUR DATE.”

The clip has over 350,000 views with tons of fans cheering for Charli, commending her for the way she handled the incident. “You’re my role model,” wrote one Instagram user. “You are the realist, most bad ass ever!!” said another.

In an interview with Glamour earlier this year, Charli XCX spoke about her fearlessness onstage, attributing it to the special relationship she has with her fans. “[My fans] really care about me, and I really care about them,” she said. “We’re speaking the same language, and maybe nobody else gets that language, but we totally understand. I just feel my music is now a safe space for me to be really honest. I don’t feel afraid.”

Props to Charli for her realness, and especially for refusing to be embarrassed by a totally normal function of the female body. Considering 42 percent of women have experienced period-shaming and 58 percent of women have felt embarrassed simply for being on their period, we no doubt need more champions like her.
