You probably know Giada de Laurentiis from the Food Network. The Italian-born chef moved to American from Rome when she was seven years old, but held on to her cultural heritage by speaking and cooking Italian at home. While it may not have played well for her in school, the 47-year-old chef credits her booming career to being a small child in a new country. “I felt very empowered when I was in the kitchen,” she says, which is why she ended up doing it for a living. Laurentiis is now a cookbook author, television host, and restaurateur. Learn more about her story above.
