Surprise! Keira Knightley has given birth to her second child. The 34-year-old actress appeared on BBC Breakfast this morning to chat about her latest projects — and casually dropped the news that she gave birth six weeks ago.
During the interview, Knightley spaced out for a second and then joked that she was in a baby fog: “You can tell I’ve got a 6-week-old baby, can’t you? I’m talking, but I’ve got no idea where I’m going.”
She continued: “This is about the third time since I gave birth that my hair has been brushed — and I didn’t brush it. Lovely Luke, who is my hairdresser today, he brushed it. I was in my pajamas when they got there and this is somebody else’s dress.”
Aside from the whole personal hairstylist thing, this is totally a relatable moment for new moms. “It’s all smoke and mirrors today,” Knightley said. “Which I’m super happy about, but I’ve just sort of been led here. And I’ve got six hours, so this is my workday.” She explains to British journalist Louise Minchin that she will also have to take breaks for pumping breast milk before she has to get back home for a feeding.
She also shared some solid parenting advice for “normal” moms who aren’t in the spotlight and don’t have the privileges that celebrities do: “Then you should still be in your pajamas and don’t brush your hair and let the house be a complete mess and only see people who are going to bring you food,” she said. LOL, yes.
Knightley announced her pregnancy in a similarly nonchalant way back in May, when she arrived to the Chanel J12 cocktail party in Paris with her husband, James Righton, and her surprise baby bump. Their newest arrival, of which the gender has yet to be revealed, is the second child for the couple, who share a four-year-old daughter named Edie.
Though she’s been somewhat private about her pregnancies, Knightley has been vocal about the realities of motherhood. Last fall, the actress penned a controversial essay about the pressures put on celebrity moms, particularly Kate Middleton. “We stand and watch the TV screen,” she wrote. “She was out of hospital seven hours later with her face made up and high heels on. The face the world wants to see. Hide. Hide our pain, our bodies splitting, our breasts leaking, our hormones raging.”
Hopefully we’ll hear more about Knightley’s newest addition soon.
