After months of showing off her icy blonde locks in a slew of varying lengths, Kim Kardashian West decided to switch things up with a completely new 'do over the weekend, just in time for a quick trip to Tokyo with her sisters, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian.
The mom-of-three took to her Instagram story to debut her new locks on Feb. 25, assuring fans that her bubblegum pink hair was, in fact, a dye job and not a wig as she debuted the new hue. She also posted the pictures on Twitter, setting the record straight as she said: “I don’t really do wigs. It's real."
Her hairstylist, celebrity colorist Chris Appleton, also posted the image to his Instagram account on Sunday, asking fans: "Who's loving the new look?"
Kardashian took to her app to explain her new makeover. "Ever since I did the CR Fashion Book shoot and wore a pink wig, I thought it would be fun to dye my hair pink. Chris Appleton and I thought about it for a month and then decided to just go for it! Since my hair is blond right now, it was easy to put the pink color over it. I figured now was the perfect timing!"
It's no secret that the stylish star loves switching up her look, debuting her icy blonde locks in September 2017. In recent months, the reality darling hinted that it might be time for a new hue as she teased a return to her signature brunette locks on social media and even debated going red.
Her change came on the heels of last night's Keeping Up with the Kardashians episode where matriarch Kris Jenner traded her signature pixie for a blonde wig, in an attempt to channel Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada.
Appleton, Kim's colorist, offered up tips on how to maintain such a bold look if you're feeling inspired by Kardashian's latest makeover. "Kim and I wanted to do a pink that would complement her skin tone. There are so many types of pinks to try, so it’s important that you work with a pink that suits your coloring and makeup to get the right look! I didn’t want to re-bleach her hair, as I want to keep the condition strong—so, the roots worked perfectly! Maintaining a pink color can be tricky, but these are some of my tips to make your color last," he said on the reality star's app.
He also recommends trying out something less permanent to ensure you're ready to make the change. "Try wigs first to get the vibe," Appleton said.
As for caring for the hue, he said: "Use Olaplex to keep the hair strong and glossy. Use a sulphate-free shampoo like Color Wow Security Shampoo between colorings to stop the color from being stripped. Avoid over-washing it. A color like Kim's is super delicate, so I recommend dry shampoo when possible."
Although Kardashian admitted both her daughter and hubby are huge fans of her latest look it doesn't sound like we should get too used to her new hue. "It might only last a week or two, but I love it and I hope you guys do too!"
