It’s been a while since Meghan Markle last posted to Instagram. After her engagement to Prince Harry, the former actress shut down all of her social media accounts, including her lifestyle blog. To follow her life since becoming a royal, fans have had to do so through the official accounts of Kensington Palace. But now that they are married, expecting their first child, and moving into their own home, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are back on the ‘gram.
Their joint account, @SussexRoyal, was announced today. “Welcome to our official Instagram,” they wrote in the caption of their first post, a gallery of images of the couple. “We look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the cause we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shed light on key issues. We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexryoal. – Harry & Meghan”
The post has over 200,000 likes, since we last checked, and the account itself already has nearly half a million followers.
Kensington Palace also announced the news with a similar post on Instagram: “Follow @SussexRoyal for more on the work of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Follow @KensingtonRoyal for more on the work of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge,” the caption reads.
And while this may sound as if the royals are parting ways, it’s important to note that rumors of a family feud have been shut down. Though it was announced last month that Markle and Harry would not only be splitting households from Prince William and Kate Middleton, but also hiring their own communications staff, sources say there is no bad blood between them. That said, we can most likely expect to see plenty of family photos and shared social work on both accounts.
Given that volunteer work and social justice have always been near and dear to the couple, even before they were together, we anticipate they will use their highlight reel to share their charitable endeavors with the world. Though, we are obviously most excited for a baby announcement! That will surely top the infamous egg for the most likes on Instagram. We hope.
