Happy first Mother's Day to the Duchess of Sussex! Meghan Markle celebrated the special day with a sweet photo of her one-week old son Archie's feet (AW). The image was posted on the Duke and Duchess' official Instagram account with a caption that alluded to Prince Harry's late mother, Princess Diana:
"Paying tribute to all mothers today – past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered," the caption read. "We honour and celebrate each and every one of you."
The post continued:
"Today is Mother’s Day in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Japan, and several countries across Europe. This is the first Mother’s Day for The Duchess of Sussex. Quote from ‘lands’: my mother was my first country; the first place I ever lived."
In addition to Markle's sweet message, the photo (which was taken at the royals' Frogmore Cottage home in Windsor) shows forget-me-nots, Princess Diana’s favorite flower, in the background.
Prince Harry, 34, and Markle, 37, were married in May 2018 and announced the birth of their son on May 6, 2019. They've continued to be an unconventional royal pair, having opted out of the traditional photo opp on the steps of St. Mary’s Hospital and giving their son a nontraditional name.
The Duke and Duchess looked happy as ever in their first appearance together as parents. Markle told press, "It’s magic. It’s pretty amazing. I have the best two guys in the world, so I’m really happy."
