Despite recent reports calling Meghan Markle “demanding” and “difficult to work with,” people close to the Duchess say that she is actually down-to-earth about her daily routines. In an interview with People, five women in Markle’s inner circle opened up about her lifestyle, and it’s far from what you would expect.
“There’s a false assumption that she lives in some gilded palace with staff and ladies-in-waiting and all these royal perks,” said a friend. “It’s simply not true.” Another added, “The perception of their lifestyle and the reality are two different things.”
For someone who has unlimited resources at her disposal, it seems the mom-to-be prefers to do things herself. According to her friends, she does own her hair and makeup, passes on pricey manicures to paint her own nails at home, and styles and dresses herself for every day public outings. Sure, it’s safe to assume that HRH calls on the pros for special occasions, like her wedding day, but the royal household isn’t regularly staffed with a glam squad.
“I was with her last month, and she was going on a public engagement. Harry and I were sitting with the dogs, and we were all chatty, and she’s painting her nails,” one source recalled. “Except for her wedding, she does all her own makeup. Dresses herself, styles herself… She’s very self-service.”
According to her friends, Markle also cooks every day for herself and Prince Harry, takes care of their dogs, and makes quality time for her friends. "How much she loves her animals, how much she loves her friends, how much she loves feeding you, taking care of you — none of that has changed … That’s Meg.”
Honestly, with all of the royal protocol, who can blame her wanting to keep some control over her lifestyle?
