Meghan Markle’s Wedding Diet Is Shockingly-Sane

While Meghan Markle’s wedding diet isn’t technically a weight-loss diet, it is royally good for Mother Earth and adorable little creatures everywhere. That’s because she keeps a strict vegan diet during the week. (We’re pretty sure this means the royal wedding surprises won’t include cheese wedding cakes.) It's also been reported that Markle completely cut out carbs and alcohol and has been hitting the gym regularly in preparation for her big day on May 19.

Veganism is a quickly growing diet and lifestyle trend among health and Earth-conscious people in the US and Europe. In the US alone, sales of plant-based food went up by 8.1 percent during the past year, surpassing $3.1 billion, according to research carried out by Nielsen for the Plant Based Foods Association (PBFA) and the Good Food Institute. That’s pretty serious, and Meghan Markle’s diet is popular for good reason.

Markle, speaking to Best Health, was quick to explain that her diet isn’t actually a diet at all. “It’s not a diet; it’s lifestyle eating.” She went on to explain that, “When I’m filming, I’m conscious of what I eat. I try to eat vegan during the week and then have a little bit more flexibility with what I dig into on the weekends.”

While going vegan sounds like it could be daunting, it turns out just about anything in the world can be turned vegan — from mayo to burgers — and many of your favorite fast food restaurants are catching on.
