Miley Cyrus Responds To Critics Who Say She’s Dating Too Soon After Liam Hemsworth Split

Miley Cyrus

Since announcing her split from Liam Hemsworth in August, Miley Cyrus has been under a microscope. The 26-year-old singer began dating Kaitlynn Carter almost immediately after news of the young couple's divorce broke, and she was recently seen kissing musician Cody Simpson, causing people to criticize her for moving on too quickly and dating other people.

It's understandable why the public is so invested in her love life, given that we've watched her on-again, off-again relationship with Hemsworth go from teen romance to dramatic breakup to whirlwind marriage over the last 10 years. But as Cyrus points out in a lengthy Instagram story, this does not give anyone the right to judge her decisions. “I think that’s why people have always felt so entitled over my life and how I live it because they’ve watched me grow,” she writes in an Instagram Story. “But I am grown now and make choices as an adult knowing the truth/details/reality. People only 'know' what they see on the internet.”

Cyrus also points out the double standard women face when dating. “I am trying to just THRIVE/survive in a 'man's' world,” she continues. “If we can’t beat 'em, join 'em! If our president can 'grab 'em by the p*ssy….' can’t I just have a kiss and açaí bowl?!?!”

On a more personal note, she says that since her relationship with Hemsworth spanned nearly 10 years, she never experienced dating as an adult woman. “This 'dating' thing is new to me too. I’ve never been an “adult” / grown ass woman experiencing this…I was in a committed relationship for almost All my teens and early 20s; with the exception of a few breaks, which usually in those times I was working my ass off with not much R&R…. and “meeting/ trusting” people in my position is really tuff.”

But despite all the criticism, Cyrus says she refuses to become a “recluse” in her dating life and will continue to do what makes her happiest. “I would like to share an activity with someone I am dating and not be stuck at home with pretty much nothing to do but 'Netflix and chill'” she writes. “Don’t f****** pity me, not what I’m asking for. I have a great life I wouldn’t trade for 'privacy' but PLEASE don’t make this awkward for me! I am trying to make light and like always MAKE FUN of myself / and the public’s perception of me! Get used to me dating—this is where I am at!”

Dating is hard enough to navigate as is, so let's give the girl a break, shall we?
