Paris Hilton Shares First Look At New Documentary, ‘This Is Paris’
Paris Hilton is giving fans a rare glimpse into her private life, and it turns out that it’s not as simple as it may seem. In the trailer for her upcoming YouTube Originals documentary, This Is Paris, the socialite turned businesswoman opens up like never before, revealing her insecurities and a childhood trauma that still affects her today.
Debuting the trailer for the docuseries on Instagram, Hilton wrote, “I've never been this open about my life before, but I'm finally ready to share my truth.” The trailer is interspersed with older footage, including flashes of her partying with Kim Kardashian and home videos of her at boarding school, as well as recent interviews. She talks about growing up in the spotlight and how it’s hard for her to be normal.
“I feel like the whole world thinks they know me,” she says as the trailer starts. “No one really knows who I am. I'm always putting on this facade… I don't even know who I am sometimes. I didn't used to be that way.”
“I'm so used to, like, playing a character that it's, like, hard for me to be normal,” she says almost apologetically. Perhaps the first person to become famous for being famous, Hilton catapulted to stardom in the early 2000s. She became known for her party-girl persona and catchphrase, “That’s hot,” and her antics landed her a reality show, titled The Simple Life, alongside friend Nicole Richie.
Her influence stuck and she continued to build her empire, which now includes everything from tech investments and music to clothing and, of course, fragrance. It was her first perfume, launched in 2004, that really started it all. She now has 25 perfumes, and her brand is estimated to have done over $2.5 billion in fragrance sales.
When it comes to Hilton’s success, it’s all about branding. She’s a worldwide name. But her brand, she reveals, was born out of darker times. In the trailer for the docuseries, Hilton opens up about a childhood trauma. “Something happened in my childhood that I've never talked with anyone,” she explains in various scenes with her mom and sister.
“I still have nightmares about it and the only thing that saved my sanity was thinking about who I wanted to become when I got out of there,” she continued. “I just created this brand, this persona and this character. And I’ve been stuck with her ever since.”
While the trailer doesn't elaborate much more, it's enough to know that this will be a side of Paris Hilton we have never seen. The docuseries premieres on Youtube on September 14. In the meantime, watch the full trailer for This Is Paris below.
