If we could cast a dream movie filled with our favorite Hollywood women, it might look a lot like the upcoming film adaptation of beloved fantasy novel A Wrinkle in Time. Produced by Disney and directed by Ava DuVernay, it stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling as a diverse celestial trio able to "wrinkle" time. That's right, not only are Oprah, Reese, and Mindy sharing the same screen, but they're doing it as the literal goddesses we know them to be.
For those who didn't read the book during childhood (or who perhaps need a refresher on the classic tale), A Wrinkle in Time follows a 13-year-old girl named Meg who works alongside her younger brother Charles and classmate Calvin to rescue her father, a scientist held captive on another planet by evil forces. Kaling, Witherspoon, and Winfrey portray Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Which, respectively. Also starring are Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris Pine, Rowan Blanchard, and Zach Galifianakis.
"I saw so much beauty in it, but also so much meaning," DuVernay told Entertainment Weekly of the book. "[T]he story of this girl saving the world and being out there in the universe slaying the darkness, it also says a lot about slaying our own dragons.”
The film hits theatres on March 9, 2018, and looks like a perfect fun-for-the-whole-family viewing option. Also, can we talk about how insane those costumes are? They're practically begging for a designer collaboration (or at least next year's Halloween costume of the moment).
