Spring might still be eight months (and one very cold winter) away, but it’s never too early to start dreaming about what we’ll wear once the weather thaws. New York Fashion Week wrapped up on Wednesday night, leaving us with enough outfit inspiration to last us through next season. The runways were not only dotted with famous faces like Ashley Graham, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Slick Woods, and Kaia Gerber, but they were also the source of fashion’s biggest trends, many of which we want to start wearing right now.

But as we looked back on some of the most popular looks from the shows, we couldn’t help but think that a lot of them seemed very familiar and then realized that all of our favorite trends came straight from our grade school closets. Nostalgia was the name of the sartorial game at NYFW. From cargo pants to tie-dye, scroll through to see some of the spring 2019 fashion trends to get excited for.

Cargo pants

The early aughts have been slowly making their fashion comeback, and we’ve officially reached peak nostalgia with an influx of cargo pants coming down the catwalks during New York Fashion Week. The comfy-yet-questionable favorite was spotted at Ralph Lauren, Prabal Gurung, and Jonathan Simkhai, and has already made its way off the runway by way of Kendall Jenner. Time to start searching the back of your closet for the pair you swore you’d never wear again.

Finally, the skills you honed at summer camp all those years ago will come in handy. If this year’s fashion shows are to be believed, you’re going to want to be dip-dying everything you own. From a tie-dye denim set at Eckhaus Latta to a color-blocked oxford at Proenza Schouler to the ’60s inspired t-shirt and blazer combo at R13, there are plenty of ways to embrace your inner hippie this season.

Bike shorts

In case you needed more proof of the major influence that Kim Kardashian’s personal style has on the fashion world as a whole, look no further than the innumerable pairs of bike shorts that dotted both the runways and the street style set this season. Models from Miao, Maryam Nassir Zadeh, and Nanushka showed off how to wear the trend. The takeaway? Pair them with a sexy tank for a night out or a blazer and you’ll be ready for the (very, very casual) office.

Cartoonish accents

For the spring 2019, plan to see many of your favorite ‘90s cartoon characters making their way off the screen and onto your clothes. Designers like Calvin Klein, Coach, and Jeremy Scott sent models down the runway in graphic tees featuring the likes of Disney’s Aristocats and that famous poster from Jaws, which has us wishing we didn’t throw all of those baby tees away when we moved to college.

Doc Martens

The trendiest shoes of the season weren’t made for a runway walk, but rather a runway stomp, care of Dr. Martens. Sandals inspired by the ‘90s clunkers made appearances at Monse, Pyer Moss, and Chromat, telling us what we've always wanted to hear: You *can* wear your Martens in the summer.
