10 St. Patrick’s Day Spirits to Subsitute Green Beer


Everyone's painting the town green today in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. While happy hour is sure to be in full swing well before five, everyone doesn't have to sip suds to celebrate. In lieu of bellying up to the bar for a green beers, a sip of one of these cocktails is sure to lift your holiday spirit — minus the bloat.

Screaming Banshee

2 oz. SVEDKA Vodka
¾ oz. fresh lime juice
¾ oz. simple syrup
Cucumber slices and basil

Muddle cucumber and basil in a cocktail shaker. Add remaining ingredients and shake vigorously. Fine strain into a chilled Martini glass, and garnish lavishly with cucumber and basil.

Lady Luck

1 oz. Baileys Salted Caramel Irish Cream

½ oz. Irish Whiskey
Green Sugar for Garnish

Combine Baileys Salted Caramel Irish Cream and Irish whiskey in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and strain contents into a shot glass rimmed with green sugar. 

Mint Margarita

1 oz. Sauza Blue Silver 100% Agave Tequila

½ oz. club soda
1 oz. fresh lime juice
1 bunch of fresh mint
1 oz. sugar
Salt to rim (optional)
Extra mint leaves (for garnish)
Lime wedge (for garnish)

In a glass, muddle together the mint leaves, sugar and lime juice until they start to melt together. Add tequila. Fill glass with ice and pour cocktail mixture 3/4 of the way to the top of each glass. If you want, rim your glass with salt by rubbing the rim with a lime wedge and dipping in a plate of salt. Fill glass with club soda and garnish with an extra sprig of mint and lime wedge.

Bourbon Tarragon Cooler, Created by Bar-Lab's Elad Zvi

2 oz. Serrano-infused Maker's Mark Bourbon*

1 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice
½ oz. agave syrup
Pinch salt
1 cup ice
4 sprigs tarragon

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until the ice is pureed. Serve immediately.

*For the Serrano-infused Bourbon:
2 cups Maker's Mark® Bourbon
1 piece serrano pepper, cut in half and deseeded

Combine the pepper and Maker's Mark Bourbon in an airtight container and allow it to macerate for at least 2 days. Store in the fridge and shake container gently twice a day.

Pot O’Gold

1 oz. Ty Ku Citrus Liqueur

½ oz. Tequila
Agave Nectar

Combine the Ty Ku liqueur and tequila in a cocktail shaker over ice. Add a splash of agave and a squeeze of lime. Shake and strain into a martini glass and garnish with a pineapple slice if you’d like.

Good Luck Charm

1 oz. CÎROC Vodka
1 oz. Sour Apple Schnapps
Splash of Sour Mix

Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker over ice. Shake and strain into a martini glass before garnishing with a Granny Smith apple slice.

The Irish Way, served at The W New York – Downtown

2 cups hot coffee

1 cups Redbreast Whiskey
1/2 oz. simple syrup
1 pt. heavy cream
2 oz. white crème de menthe

Build the ingredients in a large mug and stir to mix. Top with a generous amount of whipped cream.

Lucky Brogue

1 oz. Crater Lake Sweet Ginger Vodka

2 oz. Crater Lake Rye Whiskey
3 Dashes Angostura Bitters
Club Soda

Combine vodka, whiskey and bitters in an ice-filled rocks glass. Top with soda and stir. Garnish with a lemon peel.

Green Mexican

1 oz. Hornitos Plata Tequila

1 oz. Midori

4 oz. Sweet and Sour Mix

Fill a Collins glass with ice. Add the tequila and Midori, fill rest of glass with sour mix, and garnish with an orange slice.

1 ½ oz. Van Gogh Citroen
Stella Artois Cidre
Squeeze of lemon

Fill a rocks glass with ice and add vodka, squeeze of lemon, and stir well to chill. Top with cidre.
