10 Ways to Treat Yourself

Devoting a day to pampering yourself doesn’t have to be complicated, and it doesn’t have to break the bank! Forget spending a fortune on expensive spa packages or a day at the salon—we’re here to help you (and your bank account) relax. Taking a day for yourself is one of the most important things you can do to keep your body and mind feeling rested and cared for … and guess what. You deserve it. So block off a few hours in your busy schedule for your DIY spa day! Be sure to make the brown-sugar scrub and hair mask (see below for recipe) before you start your spa day.

  1. Make the most out of the few hours you’ve set aside for yourself with an invigorating drink. For a refreshing spalike beverage, add slices of cucumber or lemon to your water pitcher. If you’re a tea lover, grab a bottle of Lipton Iced Tea—we love the peach flavor.
  2. Head to your bathroom, dim the lights, and light a relaxing candle. We’re fans of this lavender-scented candle from L’Occitane (available at loccitane.com for $25). The fragrance is long-lasting, but it won’t overpower or irritate your senses.
  3. Draw a warm bubble bath. You can make your own bath bombs or mix Epson salts with your favorite essential oil. Soak, then right before you’re ready to get out, cleanse your skin with a gentle body wash or soap.
  4. Bonus: If your locks are feeling thirsty, apply a moisturizing hair mask while you’re relaxing in the tub. Make your own with our recipe below.
  5. Towel off with your fluffiest towel, and apply lotion while your skin is still damp.
  6. Change into a fuzzy robe or your comfiest sweats; grab a spa headband (this one is only $4) and the homemade face scrub you made earlier.
  7. Gently massage the scrub onto your face and rinse with warm water. If you’re partial to face masks or don’t have time to make a scrub, you can make an easy mask by mixing one tablespoon of plain yogurt, one teaspoon of honey, a dash of cinnamon, and a dash of nutmeg. Apply for 10 minutes and relax with your favorite book while it does its magic, then rinse with warm water.
  8. Head to the couch and put on your favorite movie or a TV show you’ve been meaning to catch up on, and grab your favorite healthy snack. We love apples and almond butter or air-popped popcorn.
  9. It’s nails time. Remove any old polish, grab your favorite shade, and get to work. Take the time to nourish your nail beds with a cuticle cream—your hands will thank you later!
  10. 10. Do some yoga stretches before you continue the rest of your day … and enjoy feeling relaxed!
