5 Margaritas to Raise a Salt-Rimmed Glass To


Though we may be in the midst of winter, we’ve already got warm weather on the brain. Why? Tomorrow marks National Margarita Day where tequila-enthusiasts imbibe the classic cocktail in any number of versions. Whether you prefer yours sweeter, spicier, or more sour, these libations are the perfect way to escape the chill until its unofficial holiday, Cinco de Mayo!

Prickly Pear Margarita

8 oz. Sauza Blue Silver 100% Agave Tequila
4 oz. JDK & Sons O3 Premium Orange Liqueur
1 can Frozen Limeade
6 oz. Prickly Pear Cactus Puree or Juice
4 cups Crushed Ice

Combine all of the ingredients into a blender and pulse until ice is completely blended. Taste and add sugar or lime juice for a more sweet or sour taste. Pour into salt-rimmed margarita glass.

Thai Basil Cucumber Margarita

1 ½ – 2 oz. Peligroso Silver
2 oz. Agave Nectar or Simple Syrup
2 Limes, squeezed
1 Cucumber
Ginger Ale
Black Pepper
Thai Basil

Muddle Thai basil and two slices of cucumber in a shaker with the agave nectar or simple syrup. Add the fresh lime juice and tequila and fill with ice. Shake vigorously and pour into a margarita glass filled with ice. Garnish with a cucumber slice and spring of basil and add a pinch of black pepper on top.

Jalapeño Margarita by Whiskey Blue New Orleans

3 pcs. Jalapeños, no seeds
1 ½ oz. Casamigos Silver Tequila
½ oz. Cointreau
2 oz. Fresh Lime Juice

Muddle the jalapeño in a cocktail shake and add the tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and top with ice. Shake vigorously and pour into a rocks glass over ice and garnish with a jalapeño slice.

Frozen Banana Margarita

1 13-oz. can Frozen Pineapple-Orange-Banana Concentrate
13 oz. Sauza Blue Reposado 100% Agave Tequila
4 Frozen Bananas
1 Can Light Beer
3 Limes

Combine the concentrate, tequila, and bananas in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a pitcher, add the beer, and stir. Pour into a brown sugar-rimmed glass and garnish with brown sugar boiled bananas, optionally.

Spicy Sangre Blood Orange Margarita

2 slices of Jalapeño Pepper or Serrano Chili
2 oz. Peligroso Silver Tequila
4 oz. Blood Orange Juice
1 oz. Cointreau or Triple Sec
½ Fresh Lime

Muddle the two slices of the pepper or chili with the tequila in a cocktail shaker. Add in the blood orange juice, Cointreau or triple sec, and the juice of half a lime. Shake vigorously and serve in a tumbler filled with ice. Garnish the a blood orange slice.
