Janelle Chaplin, Creative Director of O&M, caught up with us before Fashion Week to share her daily routine preparing for the Veronica Beard Fall 2014 show in a day that truly emphasized: "Rain, Hail or SNOW?...The show must go on!"
I wake up, tripping over my yet-to-be-unpacked cases from the European trip that I flew in from last night. The view from the window is a white winter wonderland! Today should be interesting.
Fighting the slushy snow as I walk down to the O&M.nyc studio space to arrange my kit for NYFW "Hair Test Day"
Head to Starbucks for a PEP tea (probably the worst day to try and quit coffee!)
Amazingly, arrive early to the Veronica Beard studio. (Rule of Thumb: Always leave 20 minutes early when it's spewing snow and you have cases full of curling irons!)
The test begins. I like to view the garments first to see the shapes, study the necklines and get a vibe for the collection. I then discuss the inspiration with the stylist for Veronica Beard’s FW14 show. This season, we go for a 70's-Glamour rich girl who has been partying all night in LA LA land. A clean, deep and low side part with a lived-in Glamour wave.
Lunch with our PR team to discuss the logistics of the next week.
Head back to the O&M studio to catch up on the 297 unread emails from my European trip. (I break at this point and drink a coffee)
Still answering e-mails, I start to prepare for my second test, CZAR by Cesar Galindo. This time though, I’m not fighting snow with cases, as the troops are coming to the O&M studio.
Makeup, nails, and Cesar arrive.
Well into the world of the team’s creative jam session around the O&M communal table, the Look is born. Cesar is always a fan of a sci-fi feeling like a chic party girl at heart. He also loves a little color— this season, the hues are deep purples and blues. The look is very androgynous, with focus at the back, mixing a dry and clean texture. We decide to add a splash of colour using Holi Powder rather than spray to make the application more interesting. We’re also going to create a curtain of hair, taping hair down over the garment with mirrored and black tape to add a little sci-fi edge.
My day does not end yet. In walks a dear friend Albie, Cultural Strategist & Client Relations for PaperMag and DJ, for a private snip and glass of wine. We discuss and compare schedules for the next week to ensure we’ll attend the same parties and events. He is then my dinner date for Bubby's High Line.
Brush teeth, and apply hydration with a Dr. Jart face mask. Sleep time.
