He may have a knack for illicit activity as one of the most intimidating characters on television, but in real life, Boardwalk Empire star Erik LaRay Harvey has a tamer set of hobbies.
“I'm a huge tennis fan; I love to play. I'm also an avid runner, so track and field is something I [enjoy] watching,” he shared at the Screen Actors Guild Foundation's inaugural New York fundraiser.
We stole a moment with the D.C. native at the charity event's Trump National Golf Club locale, where he joined Ron Perlman, Alysia Reiner, and more to raise $130,000 for the Foundation's Catastrophic Health Fund and assistance programs. A frequent golfer who cites Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Tiger Woods, as his top three, Harvey joked that his BE alter ego would lead him to victory on the green.
As for his season four turn as career criminal Dunn Purnsley, Harvey didn't give much away. “The producers would kill me,” he joked to neighboring reporters. Oh, the irony.
Up until this past Sunday, we've seen his character off a duplicitous booking agent (“I was even shocked when I had to butcher a man's head off with a bottle,” he said of the startling scene), and align with Harlem kingpin Dr. Valentin Narcisse (Jeffrey Wright) to covertly dismount his boss Chalky White (Michael Kenneth Williams). In true Boardwalk Empire form, that brewing rivalry will continue to play out with bootlegging as the backdrop.
“Chalky and I are sort of like brothers [on the show], but it's always at a head. When they first introduced my character on the show, we were at each other's heads,” Harvey said.
In other words, Boardwalk Empire's season four plot will continue to grow thicker than thick, just like we like it.
