Altuzarra Has His Eye on the Prize

Joseph Altuzarra is ready for the competition as he became the U.S. finalist for the International Woolmark Prize last night. The half French, half American designer beat out Wes Gordon, Creatures of the Wind, Whit, Bibhu Mohapatra, Daniel Vosovic, Giulietta, Ohne Titel, Timo Weiland, and Tucker. “I’m really stunned and very, very happy,” the former Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler intern told

He will be awarded $100,000 during Milan Fashion Week in February, which he said would go toward his pre-fall collection. Plus, Altuzarra will represent the U.S. in the upcoming international competition.

According to Women’s Wear Daily, Altuzarra will spend the next six months creating a capsule collection in merino wool to compete with designers from Europe, India, Asia, and Australia. The grand prize winner will receive $91,441 and their collection will be carried in Harvey Nichols, Saks Fifth Avenue, 10 Corsmo Como, Joyce, and David Jones.

We wish him the best of luck!
