Before the Oscars red carpet even began, Valentino sent out a statement, declaring Anne Hathaway would wear a dress of from the design house. Given her close relationship with Mr Valentino himself, it was hardly shocking, but when Hathaway stepped onto the carpet, it turns out she opted for Prada.
Finally, she's released a statement, explaining her decision.
"It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans. Though I love the dress I did wear, it was a difficult last-minute decision as I had so looked forward to wearing Valentino in honor of the deep and meaningful relationship I have enjoyed with the house and with Valentino himself. I deeply regret any disappointment caused."
The similar dress could actually be two different options - either Jennifer Aniston's red Valentino or Amanda Seyfried's custom Alexander McQueen. Regardless, expect to see Hathaway in Valentino frequently in the coming months.
