Backstage Beauty Beat: 3.1 Phillip Lim
THE HAIR: Using MoroccanOil products, hair expert Paul Hanlon molded models’ hair into a sexy, new-wave punk ‘do at 3.1 Phillip Lim. for MoroccanOil. Inspired by the likes of Cindy Crawford and Brigitte Neilson, Hanlon went for shiny, sculpted hair without all the body and volume. It’s like “what they used to do, but completely deconstructed,” he said. Hanlon used MoroccanOil Root Boost Mousse to infuse volume and hold into the hair. After blowing the hair dry, he doused it in MoroccanOil Treatment Light from roods to mid-head for a sweaty, sexy look. The ends were left free of product so that there remained a difference in texture from the top to the bottom of the hair. This modern take on big ol’ sex-bomb hair required much more oil than you’d normally use, so that the comb marks were visible. Hanlon used MoroccanOil Curl Defining Cream to get the style to hold, and to achieve that lovely sculpted style. He set the hair with lots of hairspray, dried the whole style with a diffuser and used pins to lock in the shape until the models hit the runway.
THE MAKEUP: Francelle Daly used NARS products in her modern take on 80’s punk makeup. On the skin, she applied Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, Radiant Creamy Concealer, Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder, and Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder. She brushed Nico or Zen blush on the cheeks, depending on the model’s coloring. Daly focused on the eyebrows to make this look a little bit different. She used an angled eye shadow brush to create a soft square shape in the brow. Using one of five eye shadow colors (depending on hair color), she brushed the shadow throughout the brow. Eyes were kept otherwise bare, save for a quick lash curl and two coats of mascara. A swipe of brow gel finished the modern look.
