One’s “Problem” involves burning up the charts. The other isn’t able to “Let It Go.” Now, both Ariana Grande and Idina Menzel are being rewarded for their work by Billboard.
The two join Taylor Swift as recipients at this year’s Billboard Women in Music Awards. Grande, who peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year, will receive the 2014 Billboard Rising Star award. Broadway sensation Menzel has won the Breakthrough Artist of the Year honor after becoming the first singer with both a Billboard Top 10 song and a Tony Award.
“To be recognized alongside some of the most influential women in the music business is such an incredible honor,” said Grande, who joins Rising Star alum Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj and Janelle Monae. Menzel adds “This has definitely been an amazing breakthrough year and I’m thrilled and humbled by it all, including this wonderful award.”
Janice Min, an executive at Guggenheim Media which headsBillboard and The Hollywood Reporter, credits Grande’s “indelible mark as a young artist,” and Menzel’s influence over the decades for their respective honors. They’ll be awarded at a ceremony in New York City on December 12, with announcements for the Billboard Icon and Country Artist of the Year honorees to be made over the next few weeks.
