When traveling to Los Angeles on biz, you want the best of both worlds: a quiet, contemporary space where you can efficiently, effectively work—and a versatile hot spot for seeing the sights, hobnobbing with celebs, and living the laid-back luxe life. It's a balancing act. You'd like to be separate from the hustle and bustle but close to the chic shops and upscale restaurants. I was fortunate to strike the perfect balance between business and pleasure on a recent trip to the City of Angels, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.
Set on seven lush acres in West Los Angeles, the sprawling Hyatt Regency Century Plaza boasts 726 recently renovated guest rooms, an Equinox spa and fitness center, multiple event spaces, a casual restaurant and bar, a stylishly modern lobby court with an inviting outdoor patio, and a picture-perfect pool. Centrally located—just a few minutes from Beverly Hills—the pristine property provides easy access to all the sensational sights of the vibrant city and is a welcome retreat in the midst of bustling Tinseltown.
I stayed in a Hyatt Respire hypoallergenic room, which goes through an additional six-step process to reduce airborne particles, minimize irritants, and ensure that guests get a comfortable allergy-free night of sleep. The air purification system did its job throughout the evening and I got 10 hours of blissful rest.
During the day, I took my laptop to the lobby and people-watched between important e-mails. Coincidentally, the hotel was hosting and shooting an episode of CSI: Los Angeles, so there was plenty of action on camera and off.
After completing a sufficient amount of work, I grabbed a pre-lunch cocktail at the large lobby bar before heading to the nearby Westfield Century City mall for some retail therapy. A little work, a little play ... that's how they do it in La La Land.
