The CFDA announced a new working group within the council on Monday: the Eyewear Designers of the CFDA. Created by 12 CFDA member eyewear designers, the group’s aim is to “inspire, empower and promote awareness of eyewear design and the vitality of the optical industry through promotion, education, mentoring and collaborative initiatives.” Christian Roth (designer of Optical Affairs eyewear) will serve as the group’s spokesperson, while Gai Gherardi (L.A. Eyeworks), Selima Salaun (Selima Optique) and Blake Kuwahara (Focus Group West) will serve on the Executive Committee. Other members of the group include: Barbara McReynolds (L.A. Eyeworks), Daniel Silberman (Illesteva), Grant Krajecki (Grey Ant), Justin Salguero (Illesteva), Larry Leight (Oliver Peoples), Natalie Levy (Grey Ant), Patty Perreira (Barton Perreira), Robert Marc (Robert Marc) and Shane Baum (Leisure Society).
So, where exactly will we see this group’s influence? Expect many more runway partnerships and ready-to-wear collaborations in addition to a CFDA Press Day for Eyewear Designers in 2015. According to CFDA CEO Steven Kolb, “The formation of the Eyewear Designers of the CFDA gives credit to the important role that these designers play not only in the accessories space, but in the American Fashion industry at large.”
