This weekend I celebrated my mom’s birthday, and to say we indulged would be an understatement … but that’s what birthdays are for, right? My godmother, Teresa, or as we like to call her, my Goddess Mother, is visiting this week from Hong Kong, and it was so fun to see her and celebrate my mother’s birthday with her. Here are a few pictures from my weekend indulgences.
I met my mom and Teresa at Scala’s Bistro for a birthday lunch, where we had the delicious dessert on the left, called Chocolate! Chocolate! Chocolate! That same night we all had dinner with some family friends, where we ate corned beef and cabbage and indulged in even more chocolate. The delicious cake in the middle photo! The image on the right is a cocktail napkin from that night.
I took this picture of my mom and Teresa at Scala’s using the PriPri Maron-mini iPhone app. So “kawaii”!
Teresa always brings me really fun goodies from Hong Kong, but this time she really hit it out of the park! I adore all things Hello Kitty, so I was so excited to get these little perfumes.
Teresa also gave me this adorable book full of b.Wing illustrations. B.Wing is a super-talented, young female illustrator from Hong Kong. The text has been translated from Mandarin, which adds to the kitschyness of this adorable book.
I also tried a new product from Kraft this weekend, Philadelphia Indulgence! I couldn’t decide which flavor, so I got all three (plus, they were only $3 a pop!). To say I am obsessed with chocolate would be putting it mildly. Addicted might be a better word! I have a habit, learned from my mother, the official chocoholic of the family, of hiding chocolate all over the house.
I was super excited to try Kraft’s Philadelphia Indulgence Chocolate Cream Cheese spread because cheese, cream cheese, and cheesecake all tie for food obsession No. 2. I originally thought I would try these spreads with cookies and pretzels, but I decided to eat something a little, um, healthier and chose apples and strawberries instead of cookies.
My favorite combination of everything I tried was the White Chocolate Spread and pretzels. The spread isn’t too sweet, which I liked, and when the pretzels were added, it was the prefect combination of salty and sweet.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed the white chocolate, since I’m usually a bigger fan of the dark stuff.
After trying different combinations of spread, fruit, and pretzels, I’ve decided my second favorite pairing was strawberries with the chocolate spread, and my third favorite was the apples and dark chocolate.
The spread wasn’t too rich and had the consistency of frosting … in fact, I think the white chocolate spread would amazing as cupcake frosting. I will definitely be buying these spreads again—the price is right and they tasted great. Win-win! Real Chocolate blended with rich, creamy PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese Spread.
