We have a hard time resisting the allure of a new coffee table book, especially where fashion is involved. And when we heard our friend Elyssa Dimant was working on a new project we were both intrigued and impressed. Dimant, a fashion historian and expert in contemporary fashion studies, has just released her new book Minimalism and Fashion: Reduction in the Postmodern Era. Focusing on the sleek trend's influence in fashion, art, and design, Dimant uses over 150 rich images to illustrate and examine the minimalist movement. Works from Halston, Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, Yohji Yamamoto, and Helmut Lang and dramatic editorials shot by photographers like Richard Avedon and Juergen Teller will please the sartorial sensibility, while Dimant's astute observations are sure to contribute to the fashion cannon.
Fittingly, Dimant celebrated her tome Wednesday evening at Calvin Klein's Madison Avenue flagship boutique. Designer Francisco Costa hosted the festivities with W's new editor-in-chief Stefano Tonchi; both gentleman are masters of the minimalist aesthetic in their own right. Guests clamored for copies of the book , which will make the perfect holiday gift for the style obsessed.
Minimalism and Fashion is available at Amazon.com for $75.
