Chris Benz sat the last few seasons out as far as showing collections for his eponymous collection goes, but he’s about to make a big comeback. The designer is the new creative director at Bill Blass, with his role beginning immediately. His appointment follows a years-long struggle to keep a creative lead in place after Jeffrey Monteiro was let go in 2012.
The company’s President Stuart M. Goldblatt is looking to Benz to reinvent the brand and bring it into the new, social generation. “The whole idea was to bring in an American designer who understands women today and who is highly social just as Mr. Blass was,” Goldblatt said. Blass will use his social media skills to do just that, adding a focus on the modern woman. To put those skills to use from the get-go, Blass took to his Twitter account (which boasts over 56,000 followers) on Thursday morning to announce the news.
