Christina Applegate Talks Bad ’80s Fashion and the Return of Veronica Corningstone-Burgundy
As we wait with baited breath for the next installment of the legendary Anchorman, we can’t help but wonder what this one will bring for Veronica Corningstone-Burgundy. Whatever she gets involved in next, we know we’ll be laughing and we’re certain we’ll have something to say about her choice of clothing. We had the opportunity to catch up with Christina Applegate, a.k.a. Veronica, to get an idea of what it was like getting back into character and putting on those (sort of dreadful, sort of cute) 80’s digs one more time.
What is it like being back on the Anchorman 2 set? It was great. I’m so in love with all those dudes. It was so great to be back together again. It was like the first day of school when we all saw each other at the table read. We were all so happy and giggling and hugging and cheering, just super excited.
And those bad fashion 80’s outfits? Well, this one is definitely worse than the first one because it’s early 80’s. Not too many people looked so hot in the 80’s. Now that she’s a much more established journalist, a lot of the sexier wrap dresses are gone, and that kind of ingénue of sex is gone and now she’s just a much more conservative “Jane Pauley” from that time – no offense to Jane Pauley – you know, everything got a bit more [wrapped up] You’ll see…
What’s your worst fashion memory from the 80’s? I didn’t really pay attention to fashion [in the 80’s]…and you can tell from pictures of me going into the Emmy’s and going into the…whatever! I think the worst for me was when I was at the Comedy Awards, and I had this huge hat on with a big flowered dress, and my hair was crimped and I just—I’ve seen that picture a million times and I just think “What? Why did anyone let me out of the house in that?”
