Last week, I celebrated the holly joy season a bit early! I know, I know. It's only August. But this was a special occasion --a time to for merry memory-making with family and friends. Along with two guests, I was invited to to attend Radio City's Christmas in August.
I made it a family affair, and escorted my mom and sister to the iconic concert building on 50th and Sixth, where we put on our red-and-white Santa hats and posed in front of a sparkling Christmas tree. We were taken on a behind-the-scenes tour of Radio City Music Hall and even got to witness those long-and-leggy Rockettes rehearse for the upcoming Christmas Spectacular. (By the way, I asked one Rockette if there's a high-kick requirement, and she told me it's "toe to eye level." I could so be a Rockette.)
It was a festive and fun affair, but the happiest highlight by far was the delectable cupcake decorating! Magnolia Bakery set up a station with plain cupcakes, colorful frosting options, sprinkles, and other tempting toppers. I learned that the secret to a perfect icing job is twisting the cupcake as your gently apply the frosting with a knife. But it didn't matter if they were made to Magnolia's superior standards or messy and amateurish. Either way, they were absolutely delicious!
Happy Holidays ... in advance. xo
