Coca-Cola Invites You to Pay It Forward with Steve Harvey
With Black History Month approaching—a time to celebrate African-American culture, observe its importance to modern-day society, and encourage current generations to carry on said torch—what better time to pay it forward? This season, Coca-Cola invites you to honor the occasion and give back in an impactful way with Steve Harvey and the 2014 Pay It Forward program.
Though I’ve only brushed aside her once, Shonda Rhimes—wordsmith, visionary, creative architect—has inspired me not only as the first black woman to create and executive produce a top-10 series, but also for putting Grey’s Anatomy star Chandra Wilson behind the camera, and supporting Internet sensation Issa Rae’s promising transition to television. Her willingness to do so, despite her personal obligations and success, speaks to the power of paying it forward.
For Black History Month, the Coca-Cola Pay It Forward program can help you give back in the same way Rhimes has for women of color in her field, or perhaps, the person who most encouraged you.
Visit Coke.com/PayItForward by March 15 to nominate a young person between the ages of 16 and 21 for the chance to win a life-altering apprenticeship with Harvey and $5,000 to pursue their professional and educational dreams. On February 6, he’ll be on hand to live tweet about the significance of the Pay It Forward program and how this rare opportunity can give leave a lasting impression.
Who knows—you may nominate the next Shonda Rhimes?
