When an elegant hand-calligraphed invitation arrived on our desk we were impressed. The oversized ecru envelope contained an invite to join famed celebrity event planner Colin Cowie to celebrate the Royal Wedding. And so, last Thursday we headed uptown to The Pierre Hotel to join a select group of wedding industry insiders for a regal cocktail event.

Cowie transformed the iconic hotel's Getty Suite into a refined affair. Inspired by the Royal Wedding and a Buckingham Palace aesthetic, he presented his interpretation of how the nuptials of the century may play out. A green, white, peach, and blush palette dominated with gilded touches abounding. The Dom Pérignon flowed, as it did at Prince Charles and Diana's wedding in 1981, and guests indulged in oysters and canapés.

The consummate host, Cowie sent guests home with a slice of fruitcake as Will and Kate are expected to do. According to the event expert, English tradition dictates that "if you put it under your pillow and you're single you will dream of your mate to be...and if you're married, you'll have a sweet dream!"

But to have the dream wedding, you may have to do a bit more than that. The bottom line is, if you're a mere commoner looking for a grand affair, pairing Cowie's expertise and the old world opulence of The Pierre is the closest you'll get to a Royal Wedding!
