Coming Never: Jay Z, Beyonce, Blake Lively and More in ‘On the Run’
#NewRules. It’s the Knowles-Carter way.
After Beyoncé revealed her thing for midnight surprises with the release of her fifth album last December, Jay Z joined in on the fun, this time in an extended “movie” trailer for their Magna Carta Holy Grail duet, “Part II (On the Run).” The theatrical feat stars the ’03 Bonnie & Clyde going in for their final hit, with Jay’s unpretty past corrupting our Queen Bey into a gun-toting, grill-flashing, girl-fighting machine. Cue the quintessential ride-or-die moments with shoot-outs, love making on a million (see: “Picasso Baby”), bloody police lineups, and seedy strip clubs, as brought to you by music’s most-powerful couple.
The MelinaMatsoukas-helmed clip also boasts a star-studded cast: Sean Penn as a godfather type, Don Cheadle as a combative associate, Jake Gyllenhaal and Guillermo Díaz as badass shooters, Blake Livelyas BaddieBey’s BFF, Emmy Rossum as 5-0, and sisters Rashida and Kadida Jones as detainees. Though the clip alludes to the execution of Jay and capture of Bey (or does it…?) fans will never quite know how the thrilling tale ends. As the finale card reads, this RocNation-rated project is coming… never. Kind of like those TBA MetLife tickets, eh? Seriously Carters—I have coins to spend for a summer stadium moment, but you two must not want my money. I digress.
Check out RUN below. And before you ask, Solange and her expertise in elevator combat didn’t make the cut.
