Day in the Life: Blythe Harris of Stella & Dot
There's something perfectly romantic about working in jewelry design, especially when the styles produced are as dreamy as the baubles of Stella & Dot. This fantasy world gets to be Blythe Harris's daily reality. The mother of two and the brand's Chief Creative Officer and Co-Creator works with her teams in Sausalito and New York to bring us the stunning (and affordable!) Stella & Dot collections we've so fallen in love with. Her inspiration comes from travel, study, experience, and personal creativity, all which worked in launching a sister brand to Stella & Dot in 2014 called KEEP Collective (we at Glam are already fans). Here's how she does it:
“,”
Wake up.
“],[“
6:15 a.m.
“,”
Do a 5-minute meditation before starting my day.
“],[“
6:30 a.m.
“,”
Wake up the kids, Freddie (my youngest son) and Olive (my daughter)
“],[“
7:00 a.m.
“,”
Cook breakfast and get Freddie and Olive dressed for school, which takes quite a while now that they are very discerning about their outfits (wonder where they get that from)??
“],[“
8:00 a.m.
“,”
Leave for the office. I park the car facing the right direction so it is very easy to get out in the morning!
“],[“
8:30 a.m.
“,”
Stop at Equator coffee on the way into the office (some days I grab lunch here for later on).
“],[“
9:00 a.m.
“,”
Get into the Sausalito Design Studio and go straight to a priority setting meeting which gives the team a “view of the week.
“],[“
10:30 a.m.
“,”
Creative review with the New York Design Team.
“],[“
11:00 p.m.
“,”
One-on-ones with a team member in Sausalito. Since our office is located right on the water in a marina, we typically step outside, walk around and brainstorm.
“],[“
12:00 p.m.
“,”
Eat lunch at my desk while catching up on email or, on the rare occasion that I have time to step out, I will visit Chino in Sausalito for lunch and a latte.
“],[“
1:30 p.m.
“,”
Weekly creative review with the team, talk about upcoming seasons, silhouettes, trend and color research.
“],[“
2:00 p.m.
“,”
Brainstorm hour! This is the time I sit down to sketch and flesh ideas out. I love to hike and sometimes I will use this hour to take the team outside of the office. Brainstorming in a natural setting really eliminates the every day office distractions.
“],[“
3:15 p.m.
“,”
Executive team meetings, or a check in with our CEO & Founder, Jessica Herrin
“],[“
4:00 p.m.
“,”
Review production issues/quality issues. Problem-solving time..
“],[“
6:00 p.m.
“,”
Head home, or every-other week I love to grab dinner and a drink with my dear friend Serena (of Serena and Lily). We typically go to Sushi Ran or Le Garage, which are both conveniently located in Sausalito.
“],[“
8:00 p.m.
“,”
Start to put the kids down to bed and get back on email.
“],[“
10:00 p.m.
“,”
Watch an episode of Mad Men with my husband and then head to bed.
