When Auden founder Bryce Castaneda first arrived in New York City, he expected to hit the Fashion Week tents as a designer. It wasn’t until he combined his father and stepfather’s architectural and industry eyes for design with his mother’s affinity for Swarovski crystal that he found his true calling. Since switching from designing soft silhouettes to hardware with serious sparkle in 2010, he’s gained a star-studded fan base, including Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, and Rihanna (to name a few). Glam caught up with the bling kingto share some of the details of a typical day, including buyers’ appointments for his Resort collection of colorful confections, meeting fans of his fierce flare at Bergdorf’s, and finding late night inspiration for his latest luxe lot.
My alarm goes off, I’ll usually hit the snooze button and try to sneak in 15 minutes more of sleep. The older I’ve gotten I’ve realized that sleep is a total luxury.
Get up and get myself together for the gym. The gym is downstairs in our building, so it’s really convenient.
Get to the gym and workout with our trainer Luis who kicks my a$$ every time. I like to get my workout out of the way in the morning, plus I feel more energized for the day ahead.
Get back to my place and take a shower. Order breakfast from my favorite café in our neighborhood. I usually get an egg white omelet with ratatouille and goat cheese, a side of bacon done well, and an iced coffee.
After breakfast, I check emails and catch up on WWD while I drink my coffee.
Get dressed and head to our studio.
Once I get to the studio I go over my ”to do” list of things I need to tackle for the day. We check in with our sales team and go over orders as well as discuss prospective new accounts.
Brief conference call with our web developer on updates that need to be made for our site.
We have buying appointments today with two of our Japanese accounts. Excited for the buyers to see Resort, we’re using a ton of color!
After our meetings, my business partner Steven and I grab lunch at Sushi of Gary 46. We love their Chirashi and Hijiki Seaweed Salad.
We head over to Bergdorf Goodman (5F) for a selling day. We’re introducing a new earring today that comes in six exclusive colors for Bergdorfs. It’s great meeting customers and seeing what pieces they gravitate towards.
When I get back to the studio, I go over the first set of new samples. At this stage they are essentially a rough draft and need a few adjustments. I also work on production orders.
Wrap up the day and head downtown. We're meeting our friend Jen for dinner & drinks at Pearl Oyster Bar.
Head home. Go over any outstanding emails of the day on the ride back.
Decompress, relax, and catch up on my DVR shows. Love reality TV and I’m obsessed with Game of Thrones. I also just started watching Orange Is The New Black, and I’m completely hooked!
I’m a night owl so I’m usually up late sketching or thinking of new ideas for upcoming collections. I find it easier to get lost in my work when things are quiet and everyone else is sleeping.
Lights out. Good Night!
