Back in February, Anne Hathaway made headlines when she made a last minute decision to skip the Valentino gown she had planned on wearing to the 2013 Oscars and instead walked the red carpet in a blush Prada number with an interesting bust design. In an exclusive statement to People Magazine, Hathaway explained, “It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans.” The similar dress at the source of the controversy was the Alexander McQueen design donned by none other than Hathaway’s Les Miserables co-star, Amanda Seyfried. Given Hathaway’s longstanding relationship with Valentino, the snub came as a surprise.
And yet, can it be that her discarded dress has gotten its moment in the spotlight after all? Nicole Kidman stunned onlookers in a beautiful high-neck Valentino Haute Couture gown, detailed with an off white floral lace overlay and small train at Cannes. The dress proved strangely similar to Seyfried’s look at the Oscars, boasting the same type of silhouette and romantic style. A spokesperson for Valentino, however, reported to Us Weekly exclusively that Kidman's Cannes look is not in fact the same dress that Hathaway threw to the curb last minute. A shame, really. We’re sure the gorgeous number deserves to be seen on the red carpet!
