Discover your next obsession with our Editor’s Pick series, must-have products for your home, wardrobe, makeup bag, and office curated by Glam editors.

Being single in the city is a trope we’re all familiar with, but when you’re experiencing it for yourself, you always consider it unique. In the age of digital devices dictating our love stories, simply sharing it via a blog post can make you feel too vulnerable to Internet trolls. So when it comes to the new (and some old) flames in my life, I find it way more romantic to put my thoughts down on paper.

I was initially introduced to Ilse Valfré’s work via my colleague Cara, who couldn’t get enough of the cute girls who weren’t afraid to speak their minds. Even Lena Dunham’s a fan! With mermaids, maneaters, and lonely hearts, everyone could easily relate to Valfré’s cast of characters. I easily became obsessed, falling head over heels for the journals, which I missed writing in when I was younger. There’s sure to be secrets, wishes, and regrets that need be spilled onto the pages instead of on Facebook with flings on the rise this season. Whether you’re single, attached, or “it’s complicated,” romantic musings and love notes have found a new home. –Valis Vicenty
