2014 has been a major year for shakeups in the fashion industry. Here are a few notable moves that happened while you were sleeping…
Burberry streamed snippets of their Spring 2014 collection on the new iPhone 5s, in what clearly was foreshadowing of what was to come. In more ways than one. Burberry Group just announced that Angela Ahrendts is stepping down from her role as CEO and will join Apple as senior vice president of retail and online stores.
Christopher Bailey, presently the chief creative officer will take over Ahrendts role (but keep his title) when she leaves in 2014. Bailey told Women’s Wear Daily that he was “humbled to be asked to take on the CEO role at this company that means so much to me. I also feel privileged to be keeping my role as chief creative officer.”
It should be noted that Apple is building a mighty impressive team of fashion’s elite. Ahrendts will join Paul Deneve who left Yves Saint Laurent in July to become Apple’s vice president.
In a less anticipated switcheroo, New York Times fashion reporter Eric Wilson left the newspaper; he and his byline will take up residence at InStylemagazine. He’ll report to the Time Inc publication as a news director on November 18th where he will write, edit, and creating multimedia content—a welcomed change.
“I’ve been doing fashion journalist for 17 years and I love it so much but I wanted to figure out what would make sense for the rest of my career,” Wilson told WWD. “When I talked to [Ariel Foxman, InStyle’s EIC] about this, what he had in mind for the position and what I had in mind for the position and what I had in mind for my career was the same.” Before Wilson joined the New York Times, he reported for WWD.
