Mother Monster has been a busy girl. She’s gearing up to drop her first single, “Applause,” which she will more than likely perform when she headlines the MTV Video Music Awards at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on August 25th. After going on hiatus for a full hip replacement, Lady Gaga is back with a new sound and a new look.
“It’s interesting how you view things, and you look at it like, I’m a pop icon, and [you wonder] ‘Is this the image of the album? Is this the direction? Who came up with it,’ she mused to Women’s Wear Daily. I think that’s so interesting because it’s exactly the kind of thing we’re trying to destroy. This is one jacket. This is one image. This is one moment. This is one statement.”
What other statements can we expect from the singer?
Artistic collaborations with Robert Wilson for the VMAs, Marina Abroamovic (who recently worked with Jay Z during the “Picasso Baby” video shoot) and artist Jeff Koons. Fashion wise, we can expect to see custom pieces from Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, Versace, Armani, Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent.
We haven’t received any clues about what Gaga’s new look will be, but her stylist and fashion director Maxwell did tell WWD that “it’s more toned down and pulled back and chic. But it’s also that we’re making suits of things that they would not normally be made out of, like plastic, but they’re super well-tailored and clean. Maybe she’s just wearing a simple catsuit and head wrap like she’s wearing here [pictured above], but we sort of do the craziness on the face.”
Our first look at Gaga’s new clothes will be her VMA performance on August 25th.
