Julianne Hough sparkled on the red carpet at the Golden Globes in a gilded Monique Lhuillier gown, but the art deco inspired ball gown only caught half of our attention as the Rock of Ages star rocked a textured faux-hawk that we had to learn how to recreate. Luckily, Nine Zero One stylist Riawna Capri gave us a breakdown of constructing the show-stopping coif that she called chic, "edgy and sophisticated.”
To begin, Capri shampooed the star’s hair with Unite’s Blonda Shampoo and Conditioner to brighten her blonde locks with a large added dose of Unite 7Seconds Conditioner to detangle and add extra slip for the style. Next she spritzed the Expanda Volume Spray one to three inches from the roots for extra lift and dried with a Pro-System 74mm Round brush. Once fully dry, Expanda Dust was sprinkled throughout the root area at the top of her hair. Then starting from the back, Capri backcombed small horizontal sections one to two inches for volume all the way until the final front section. Then the backcombed Mohawk was clipped out of the way.
The sides were slightly teased throughout for added texture and volume before the hair was parted on both sides near the temples. Each side was split into a top and bottom section and then twisted into the back towards the nape, made into a little ponytail and pinned in place. For the top, Capri started with the front 3 inches and twisted the hair over towards the left and pinned it in place, with the next three inches getting twisted to the right and pinned. The alternating sections continued until it was completed to crate a twisted Mohawk. Capri then sprinkled more of the Expanda Dust on areas that needed more texture and volume and created a few wispy strands. She then sealed the look with a spritz of Unite Session-Max Hairspray for strong hold all evening and Shina-Mist for added shine.
