Groom-to-Be: George Clooney Meets His Match!
George Clooney, champion of unfettered bliss, crusader of the single life, is engaged!
Though he’s had his fair share of high-profile, celebrity relationships—most recently with the now-married, mommy-to-be Stacy Keibler—he has candidly declined any interest in happily ever after. But now Clooney, 52, has popped the question to British lawyer Amal Alamuddin, 36. The lawyer's firm Doughty Street Chambers, issued a congratulatory message on Monday, according to Reuters.
According to the New York Post’s sensational Page Six, “George and Amal hoped keep the engagement quiet, but they can’t hide the fact that they are very happy,” as evidenced by an “engagement ring” that Alamuddin wore to dinner last week with Clooney’s friends Cindy Crawfordand Rande Gerber. The couple have been dating for nearly a year, and vested interests in philanthropy and human rights may have sealed the deal.
Alamuddin, an Oxford and New York University Law alum, is an adviser to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan who most notably represented Wikileaks whistleblower Julian Assange. She and Clooney were first photographed together last October in London, months before he told Esquirethat “I was married in 1989. I wasn’t very good at it… I was quoted as saying I’ll never get married again pretty much right after I got divorced and then I’ve never talked about it since.” Since those remarks, Alamuddin has accompanied Clooney to a White House screening of Monuments Men (February 2014) and on an African safari just last month.
Consider this a sign that even the most eligible bachelors don’t need a supermodel, A-list actress, or internationally-known singer to settle down.
